Maverick Shelters was founded to do things differently. We design and manufacture light-weight shelters free of harmful chemicals such as fire retardants and long chain PFCs. All of our materials are locally sourced here in the US to keep our supply chain carbon footprint to a minimum. Every product we make is guaranteed to be long life cycle product. Every shelter is manufactured in Oregon.
Free of fire retardants
Since 1976, camping tents have been required to pass a flammability testing standard, CPAI 84. Fire retardant chemicals are added to the urethane coating. Unfortunately, these fire retardants chemicals have been proven to cause a wide range of health problems in humans. These chemicals cause cancer, neurological damage, thyroid and hormone issues, developmental problems in children. Even worse, it bioaccumulates in human tissue causing many other long term health concerns.
This is why every shelter we make is guaranteed to be free of fire retardants of any kind.
Free of forever chemicals
Most outdoor gear and nearly all camping tents are made with fabrics that have been coated with durable water repellent coatings (DWRs) made with perfluorochemicals (PFCs) which are major sources of greenhouse gases. Worse, it never goes away and bioaccumulates in water supplies, in tissues of animals and people.
This is why every shelter we make is guaranteed to be free of all long chain PFCs.
Locally Made
Every shelter is manufactured in the, US using only locally made fabrics, poles and trims. By sourcing locally we reduce greenhouse emission associated with shipping.
Small batch production runs allow us to design and produce shelters engineered for purposes ignored by big corporations. We can domestically produce 300 shelters at a time, while production runs in Asia typically start at 3,000 units.
LONG LIFE CYCLE PRODUCTS
We believe that tents/shelters should be a long life cycle product. That is why we use fabrics and coating that offer higher tear strength, abrasion and UV resistance. Our custom made Easton aluminum poles come with corrosion proof pole tips and extreme weather shock cord. Every gram has been scrutinized and every part engineered to last.
